It's a good collection but really, if the title is "Anno Dracula 1899 and Other Stories", readers are justified in expecting at least one self-contained Anno Dracula story. What we get instead is the first chapter of an upcoming full-length AD tale - effectively, a teaser ad for the next novel in the series. That was disappointing, but if you're a Newman fan, you'll still enjoy most of these stories.
First off, Kim Newman's earlier Anno Dracula novel is the best Dracula sequel ever written, and the final short story in this collection features recurring characters from Newman's Anno Dracula series, along with a brief appearance by Drusila of Buffy fame.Other notable stories focus on a Superman who landed in Germany and has been imprisoned in Spandau Prison since surrendering himself to Eisenhower at the end of World War II, a group of investors who profit from sales of a watered-down version of the serum used by Dr. Jekyll, and a hacker who communicates over the internet with a clairvoyant who lived a century ago.Kim Newman is a master of genre-mashing, and the stories in this book are clever and great fun. Highly recommended.
Well written, well plotted, smart, exciting.
As usual, Mr. Newman delivers the goods. As with most anthologies, some stories are better than others. I do wish,however, that it had more Anno Dracula stories.

It's short stories by one of the masters, Kim Newman. Some are funny, some scary, one very unexpected. There's never a dull moment. All of them are excellent twists on classic stuff. Buy it, read it. Kim is the best.
