I bought this book, honestly, because I wanted to get up to the $25 for free shipping. I saw the title and thought my daughter might like it. I have been divorced for 2 years and my daughter is 11. I am very careful about the books on divorce, as I have found many to be leaning towards one side of parenting. This book was a great surprise. I read the entire thing before I gave it to her and I couldn't believe how much it related to all the experiences she has been through in the past few years. It covers everything from learning to adapt to living in two houses to how to deal with parents dating other people. It gives great advice on how to deal with parents trying to get you to choose sides. My favorite part is how it balances the rights of a girl to be healthy and happy no matter how difficult the relationship issues are with her parents. The last page is a list of rights that is my favorite part. This book is not just beneficial to my daughter, but I got a lot out of reading it. Sometimes I'm not sure how to deal with situations on her level. This book gives me the words to say to explain, but not burden her with adult issues. I have ordered another "Smart Girls Guide" book for Christmas. Perfect for upper elementary to middle school age.
My daughter (age 9) was recommended these books after taking an Etiquette class. We ordered just about all the SMART GIRLS Books. My daughter saw this book and asked for it specifically. Her father and I are divorced. She sat down and read this book start to finish. We talked about many of the issues and she loves the book very much. It is great for her to have this book to refer to about any of our family situations and the best way for her to handle it.I recommend ALL the Smart Girls Books. They are SO GREAT! Very helpful with advice for the every day experiences that a girl has to deal with. The advice is Fantastice and worded exactly how a young girl needs it to be! I have a group of girls that I watch for the summer, and we are all going to read the books together as a group. I HIGHLY recommend these books. From divorce, to grooming, to friendship troubles, family relationships. All these books are great!
I got this book for my daughter, after being divorced now for 4 years. It has been helpful for to read up on things and even given her a better idea on how to handle the situation of having step siblings now when she visits her father. She had asked several more questions, and opened up plenty after reading this. she is 9 years old. I do recommend this book to anyone whose gone or is going through divorce with a child who is over 7 years old.

Bought it for my boyfriend's 12 year old, but the format/content was a bit too young for her. It's a super quick and easy read though with some good advice. I would recommend it for younger girls, but it's a bit too simple for a preteen.
Although I wasn't married to my daughters father this book was VERY useful. Even though she was very young when we separated she still has questions and desires for us to be together for many years. This book goes over the process and feelings that most girls experience. She loves it. We read it together. Would definitely recommend this book for a child going through this process. Even if it is a long time after the separation the advice helps at any point.
i bought this book over a year ago for my daughter. we both read it, and i thought it wasa good read for a kid whose parents are getting divorced. Not a whole lot to say about it,but it was helpful as far as books go.
Remarkable book - although I'm not overly fond of the other "Smart Girl's Guides" (sorry!). We would read a chapter each night (my husband and I are going through a divorce), and my 13 year old daughter would ask to read an extra chapter (or two), and she looked forward to this time each night. Her 14 year old brother also asked to listen in, because the content was so helpful.This book opened up excellent discussions, and is written from a perspective to encourage and empower the children while being respectful of other people and their feelings, too. Highly recommended - wish they made a "Smart Guy's" version!
