About the Author
Steve Henry grew up on a farm in the rolling hills of central Kansas, spending much of his youth working under the blue skies of the plains. After earning Bachelor's degrees in Marketing and Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University, he served a seven-year sentence in the offices of an insurance company. Missing the outdoor life, he escaped in 1985 to cycle across the continent twice, including one trek from Anchorage Alaska to Key West, Florida. Since then he has organized triathlons, led bicycle and backpack tours, written articles for Cycle St. Louis (a local bicycling publication), and enjoyed many camping trips.

This has been a great little book for those of us who love camping in Missouri. Steve Henry gives a lot of useful information. I also have the author's book "60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: St. Louis" which makes a great companion book (i.e. first go camp at a park and then hike that park's trails). It's going to take me quite a few years to check out all of these locations. I'm glad that Steve has done that groundwork for me. I find that I even go back to re-read about the places I've already visited as I enjoy his writings. I do hope that the author continues to update and expand this book as the years go by because I would buy another further expanded version of the book again "down the road."
Everything was as expected when I read this book, however the Paddy Creek Campground that everyone raves about; we must have gone to the wrong place because we were very disappointed. It was not kept up; was way out in a secluded area, had one totally trashy camper that was supposed to be the campground host! and ended up opting to go another half hour to Montauk Springs Campground which was excellent.
This book is very thorough in its breakdown of the campgrounds included in it. I like the fact that this guy has obviously been to all of them and has a clear understanding of the positive and negatives of virtually every single camping site. The only negative is that I wish privately owned campgrounds were included in the book. Other than that I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to tent camp.
Oh my gosh!!! I don't know what I would've done without this book. It give details about the campground as well as the specific site and cost of the trip. I was able to do a lot more camping this season knowing the layout of the sites!!
Great book !!! Lots of great information!!!
This is the best book for people wanting to go camping in Missouri. It details all the best spots and what you can expect at each one.
I like the series. Just wish the NPR news stories about vacation time were reflective of my job.
This book is really details and goes into great detail about the set places to camp to include which camping spots within a park are the best spots, so you can know when you are making reservations!
