I was excited when I learned about the release of Nothing But The Truth (Almost), by Paul Bishop. Paul is a 35 yr veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department. He was twice named LAPD's Detective of the year.Paul Bishop took took stories from his exceptional career with the LAPD and shares funny, dangerous, and poignant cases.The first chapter depicts Paul Bishop's first experience working a Lincoln car, or L car (one person). Paul Bishop happened to see a robbery and subsequently caught the lone suspect, who was armed. The handling detective told Paul that he was needed in court and asked Paul to conduct the interview. Can you believe this, Paul was still a "Boot." Paul Bishop obtained a confession, which included a confession to other robberies.That's it, I am not going to spoil any other stories in this book.In closing, this book in which the author is a seasoned cop, put a composite of real people and real situations in creating an exciting book.
I’ve been a fan of Paul Bishop’s novels for years. So, I was eager to buy this non-fiction book collecting his recollections of experiences as an LAPD rookie and then a detective, as well as an account of the reality TV show he developed with Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. It’s a fast, entertaining read. I especially liked the chapters about cases and incidents Bishop dealt with as a law enforcement officer. He discusses interesting details about everything from the gear cops wear, the guns they use, and their insider slang to various types of police procedures, and the ever-changing social views, bureaucracy and regulations they have to deal with. I was particularly struck by Bishop’s honesty about his feelings when confronting criminals and some of the mistakes he made along the way. It’s refreshing, eye-opening and often humorous. His behind-the-scenes account of what it was like to shoot episodes of the TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN are an added bonus that will make watching the series more fun. (It’s available for streaming on Amazon.) I’ve read and enjoyed quite a few of Paul Bishop’s books, including his police procedural novels, his boxing-themed FIGHT CARD novels, and the guide to Western novels he co-edited (52 WEEKS • 52 WESTERN NOVELS). Reading NOTES ON NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH gave me new insights into why Bishop is such an intriguing guy. I highly recommend it, especially to anyone who has enjoyed some of his other books.

This (short) book will grab you by the collar and jerk you out of your shoes. Bishop doesn’t stint on the emotions either, being honest with the reader about rookie mistakes reading a scene and, later, how much a weapon begins to weigh during a long afternoon standoff in the hot sun. If you’re looking for some hair-raising tales, this book is a flat-out winner. Don’t miss it!
Only the first half of the book is about the author's experiences with the LAPD. He relates some mildly interesting stories but I've heard better ones from my NYPD relatives. The rest of the book is boring as he describes his role in a TV reality show. I'm glad that I paid only $.99 for it.
So far, Ive read only the forward, which is exciting, and I am thrilled to get my hands on another Paul Bishop treasure. I'd give half my blood volume for his autobiography. You really want to get this whilst it is on sale!
